Team Size: 4

Allocated Time: 2 Weeks

Blurb:

Compete with friends at the local weekend food festival, selling dishes from a variety of different cuisines! Carefully select your menu, learn to bargain with friends (or you can always beg) for key ingredients in your recipes, create delicious dishes, and sell them to make a fortune. The player with the highest revenue at the end of the weekend festivities wins! But be careful not to waste too much food on your road to glory as the Cooking Champion...

Goals:

  • To combine a drafting mechanic with a random element of dice.
  • To have a series of recipes that players can follow to create dishes.
  • To categorically sort ingredients necessary to cook.
  • To incorporate an economic system.
    • Players should be able to manage their money, to make purchasing (ingredients) and selling (recipes) decisions.
    • Players should be able to trade ingredients with each other.
      • Players should have full agency over how to bargain with each other.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary:
    • Gameplay mechanics and system
    • Material matrix
    • Recipe balancing
  • Secondary:
    • Card design
    • Board design
    • Prototyping

Overall evaluation:

One of the most interesting ideas in the game is drafting dice. Both drafting and dice were components that we had to include in our design, so we decided to combine the two as part of our ingredient selection. This created an interesting dynamic where, instead of drafting something that was certain, the player was drafting for a chance at getting what they wanted. This uncertainty created room for risk and the opportunity to open up a trade mechanic, where players can trade away ingredients that they didn’t want. But because the game itself is intrinsically competitive, it makes trading, an arguably much more cooperative process, much more interesting as players try to balance their own interests and the interest of others.
